Tone Trivialities

A minor pet peeve of mine is some leftists not paying attention to the tone of their speech. If your goal is social change, one thing you need to do is convince other people they should help you. Part of that means being open and welcoming, and not unnecessarily antagonistic or cliquish. A tiny, perhaps questionable, example: instead of spelling it “Amerika,” why not just say the United States? Is anything¬†gained from this? (Aside from that, though, the article I linked to is good and worth a read for those worrying about nit-picking or not.)
